Prozac Nation
by Yahoo! Movies User (movies profile) Jun 19, 2007
It started off as a simple teen angst movie that I thought would quickly unravel with a blockbuster happy ending to cap it off, but instead I was quite surprised with the outcome. Ricci's performance was gripping and really made me believe she was the character. Prozac Nation is the story of Elizabeth Wultzer and her inner conflict that stems from the traumatic experience of her parent's divorce and the constant pressure to live up to her mother's standards. At first I felt sorry for her but after seeing how quickly she is to draw irrational stories up and to push away the people who love her, you start to realize that this is not something that she can control. As she tries to battle her demons through therapy , she is left no other choice but to become dependent on prescription medicine that leave her in a limbo within her own mind. She is no longer herself but is now socially acceptable. This film is a real eye opener about the American society that has become addicted to pills and medication in order to push their problems and pains underneath the surface.
