Liz (Christina Ricci) is so preoccupied with her own needs that she takes up drinking and drugging soon after she enters Harvard. Liz is a rich girl, with rich parents, and as her mother (an always stellar Jessica Lange) tells her, "I shouldn't have spoiled you like I did." Liz's father hasn't been involved in Liz's life for four years, and poor Liz can't seem to keep a boyfriend, either. Is it because she is so self centered? Or depressed all the time because nobody understands her? Or is it because her shrink has prescribed Prozac for Liz so she can cope? In this great big pity party of a film, you kind of feel sorry for Liz, but mostly you just want to slap her face and scream at her, "Get over yourself!" A so-so movie for people who like to watch rich kids feeling sorry for themselves.... |
