The only thing keeping me watching the movie was James Franco's excellent performance. the supporting cast was horrible, and i expected more from Mena Suvari after her performance in American Beauty. The story was only mediocre, but James Franco made it work. He made the character believable as a tortured soul who needed some form of guidance before it was too late for him. Perhaps it was too late for him. If the supporting cast did half as good as James Franco, the movie would be a lot better. It isn't Oscar worthy by any means, however more movies with this quality of performance will lead James Franco on track to at least receiving a nomination. Most people know James Franco as Harry Osborn in the Spider-Man series (which his acting in Spider-Man 2 was very good), but he should be taken more seriously as a rising actor in Hollywood because of his astounding potential to be a great actor. "Sonny" shows a glimpse of what James Franco is capable of and hopefully he will be cast in better movies to show his acting skills. |
