Wow, this movie has a startling similarity in story to the Ring.To compare the two films is an insult,though-this one is just a shallow rip-off. The story concerns a web site called feardotcom and once you log on you can't log off.The lady inside of the stupid gothic looking website page knows your name and your greatest fears and knows that you like to watch. The computer screen does some funny flashy crap and the viewer passes out and now they have 48 hours to live.People are turning up dead with bloody eyes and smashed computer screens prompting a cop and a health inspector to get involved way over their heads.Turns out to be another message from beyond the grave movie from a murdered girl who died at the hands of a (gasp!) serial killer.'Nuff said. The serial killer crap is so overused that it means next to nothing anymore. This particular sicko killer is nothing exciting and in the end the girl gets her revenge-in a particularly stupid scene that reminded me almost of that terrible movie Hideaway with Jeff Goldblum that came out in the early 90's and was based on a Dean Koontz novel.Does anyone remember that movie? The moronic ending was kind of similar. This film isn't an all out rip off of the Ring,or even of Hideaway (after all, who'd wanna rip that crappy movie off?)but is uninspired and has no thrills or even an air of creepiness. It isn't awful, though and is at least made well. The acting is okay but the visuals are corny and generally suck.So does this movie but I'll go easy on it,because I expected worse. |
