This movie is an object lesson for what is currently going on in the mid-east. Those of us in the west who think that it is our duty or responsibility to interfere in the internal affairs of the Islamic countries or covet their oil should know we will pay a price.
In the movie the British Military is ordered to engage the armies of the Mahdi to punish them for their resistance to colonial rule. The British are arrogant because they see themselves as being better equipped having better weapons etc. The Mahdi feel that they are called by Allah to rid their land of the foreign invaders and prove to be a formidible force. Of course the British military men see themselves as serving God, King and Country and whatever reason they are given must be true the movie shows probably not intentionally that there are two sides to every story. Most of the previous reveiwers didn't seem to be students of history and didn't seem to get the implications of Four Feathers. |
