Who could complain about this

First off, if you didn't like this movie, you're probably not a true Star Trek fan. The only complaints I've heard are from people who nitpick every single detail when there is really nothing to nitpick. For example, one person says 'Picard figures that ramming the crippled Enterprise into another ship that has full shields and is virtually undamaged, will work.' First off, the ship he rams does not have full shields. It has had to fight with the Enterprise AND 2 Romulan warbirds. In fact, the front of the ship probably has the least shields since it was uncloaked briefly and was bombarded by one of the warbirds. And other than that, shields are designed to absorb phaser blasts and explosions from photon torpedoes, not something the size of a freakin' starship! What would the Enterprise do, bounce off? What about when Riker was preparing to ram the Borg cube in The Best of Both Worlds? Guess it would just bounce off too. Come on, didn't you have any imagination as a child? ;) B4's presence enriches the movie because B4 represents that humanity and the greater good will go on, and there will always be a little part of Data to carry on, that Data's life was not meaningless. B4 is almost like Data's child, a simpler android but with his father's life experiences downloaded into his memory banks. There has always been 'bad humor' in Star Trek movies. Its one of the series' legacies. "Dammit Jim I'm a doctor, not a..." A bottomless pit? How about a turbolift shaft? The Enterprise is a pretty big vessel. The dune buggies scene is one of the coolest scenes ST has done. They can't have something with 4 wheels in the 24th century? What are they going to do, levitate over the desert? This is the deepest story ST has ever done. Basically most of the people who didn't enjoy this movie didn't want to enjoy it. Does every detail have to be spoonfed to you like a jar of Gerber or can you use some imagination? Anyway, if you like a sci-fi movies with a healthy dose of action and a great story, talented actors, and awesome special effects, and especially if you're not a trekkie hung up on Captain Kirk and the way things used to be, check out this movie. You will probably enjoy it. |
