Great lesson on state central planning

Critics totally missed the essence of this film. While it's true that the sub crew showed great courage, what this story tells is that a central government makes mistakes in its decisions for expediency, and while the central authority will always deny them, these mistakes can lead sometimes to human catastrophes.
The submarine was not ready but the state wanted it on mission on schedule, so they rushed it. Human beings horribly died trying to fix the nuclear reactor undersea, preventing the start of a nuclear war, and they were denied the title "hero" by the central authority because it wanted to hide its mistake and the catastrophe that resulted.
And there are still people to worship big governements...
Ford was great in his role of submarine captain. I did not expect it. Neesom was good as well, but I am not sure that his role was really necessary.
A great submarine movie to see for almost any audience. |
