Watching this movie is akin to reading three terrific short stories. The beautiful prose the narrator adds beguilies us with devilishly good details and exquisite expositions to create a multi-layered portrait of each woman. These three characters are incredibly well-drawn, alive with glorious flaws and breathing with a sad disillusion every honest human can relate to. It's modern in its situations, but the director handles them so carefully that the universal themes literally beam off the screen.
The acting is of the highest caliber, with special mention going to Kyra Sedgwick, wife of Keving Bacon who has s scene of heartbreaking reality. The second story is my favorite. Parker Posey is wonderful in the lead role. The third story is the least interesting, in my opinion, but there is still lots of things to enjoy about it.
So, for people who enjoy reading good stories with carefull crafted characters, you will not be disappinted with the film. |
