Grieving in reality
by Ron (movies profile)
Jul 1, 2005
This movie is the closest it could get on how real people grieve privately after the loss of a loved one. I lost my kid brother to cancer and my family was just engulfed with grief for months. The good thing about Mr. Sibberling's screenplay is that it did not make the grieving process melodramatic. You could see in the characters' eyes that they were sad but they try to move on with life, doing mundane things, appreciating moments of levity, resisting overacting friends offering condolences. But at the same time, they reacted to things that reminded them of the tragedy like Ben's constant pleas to repair the broken window shattered by the bullet that eventually killed Diane. If you've lost someone you love, this movie would mirror how you went about the grieving process. |
