Overall, Mr. Deeds is "wicked awesome"

Okay story line, the cat thing was a bit far fetched, but still funny. The only reason I gave A- acting is for Babe's intro to Deeds. I know she's supposed to be a bad actor in that time of the movie, but that's pushing it. Even Deeds could've detected that. The other reason is for the director's brief, yet laughable impersonation of a savvy violin player in the Knicks' stadium. Even though his appearance sucked, he did a good directing job judging by the special features. I love the visuals in Mandrake Falls as a small town and Deeds' pizzeria, it's like a place everyone would like to live someday; a small town Utopia. This is a great movie with just a few minor flaws. Erick Avari is hilarious and under-rated as Cecil Anderson and John Turturro is brilliant as butler Emilio Lopez. My personal favorite is the scene where Deeds, Anderson, and the two pilots sing the David Bowie classic "Space Oddity" while Cedar looks on in disgust. There's only one thing really bugging me: if Deeds cared so much about the good of others, why didn't he give his $1 billion to charity instead of throwing it away by buying the whole town Corvettes? |
