Monsoon Wedding is a different film. It should be lauded for breaking the typecast genre. I like watching different kinds of films, but being different doesn't always have to be excellent and similarly making stereotyped films aren't always good. This is what happens with Monsoon Wedding. A unique film in its own way, but unfortunately lacks substance. Director Meera Nair has extracted good performances from her actors, especially Nasir ud din, Shefali Shetty Shah, and Lilete, but the rest of the cast gives substandard performances. Vijay Raaz (Mr. Dubey) and Mrs. Dubey's characteres are unnecessary. I had great expectations from this flick, but I was utterly dejected. |
