Monsoon Wedding: "a high-society film", "a film meant only for the people who have high taste", "real cinema" etc. were the taglines used by the critics and the producers to promote Monsoon Wedding. They boasted about its quality and called it a film for intelligent audience. However, it is nothing of an intelligent cinema at all. Contrary to their claims, Monsoon Wedding is another masala film of Bollywood. This is not quality cinema as they claim. If you're looking for some quality stuff then watch Saving Private Ryan, The Godfather, The Scent of A Woman, Million Dollar Baby, Ray, and The Pianist etc. In Bollywood check out films like Page 3, Dev, Black (copied from The Miracle Worker). These films can boast about being quality films meant for audience of a high taste. In any case Monsoon Wedding is a misleading drag. |
