The one thing I disliked about this movie was the fact that they made Daredevil more brutal than he actually is. It is possible to have a dark hero without resorting to killing the bad guys. (The scene in the subway) "The light at the end of the tunnel? That's the 12:15." Plus I think someone at 20th Century Fox was thinking the same way as Warner Brothers when they were doing costuming for Shaq as the Superman knock off Steel "We spent so much money on this guy, we shouldn't hide his face" So, his mask comes off in pretty much every major fight. The visuals involving his "radar" sense were beautifully done, and the fight sequences were fairly impressive too, (especially the non costumed fight sequence with Jennifer Garner in the schoolyard). The acting was moderate at best, the best performances belonging to the supporting characters like Jon Favereau as Murdock's sidekick "Foggy" Nelson. The single greatest performance in this film belongs to Colin Farrell, whose portrayal of the psychotic marksman Bullseye, was not only beautifully over-the-top camp, but also wildly entertaining. Overall, Daredevil is by no means Spider-Man, but it isn't meant to be. It's meant to be darker, and a little more disturbing. The only thing I could think of that may have done some damage was it's release date. Why on earth would anyone release a comic book film like this in mid-February? On Valentine's Day no less. |
