Two vacuous friends set out on a road trip to nowhere in the hope of impressing an older woman. Both are immature and shallow in their relationships with their girlfriends and each other, and gain no insight from their experiences. Providing a contrast to this is the terminally ill Luisa, eager to get the most from her time left and trying in vain to teach the boys something too.
I liked the way the film juxtaposes the petty, narrow lives of Julio and Tenoch with the interesting but hard lives of the Mexicans the trio meet on the road; the connection between the two is cleverly left to the narrator - the boys are too empty-headed to make the link themselves. |
