I really don't know what to say about this film except that the storyline was dreadful and horrible. The role of Letitia Jackson (played by Halle Berry) was one of the most degrading and demeaning film roles for a Black actress that I have seen in recent years since Oprah Winfrey starred in "Beloved" in 1998. (This role was originally offered to Angela Bassett, But she turned it down). After seeing this film,I can see why! Although Berry's perfomance was good overall, I don't think that she should've won the Best Actress Oscar for it. If anything, She should've won that award for her portrayal of Dandridge in "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge" just a few years before (If it had been a feature film, and not an HBO movie). Bottomline: This is one of the most bleak, dreadful, darkest, and worst films in movie history. ~T |
