Wow, I was pleasantly surprised when I first see this French film. Amelie is a story about a shy young French girl who tries to fix other people lives but afraid to look at her own life. Just like the line in the movie said "Without You, today's emotions would be the scrufs of yesterday", the film delivers this message positively by protraying Amelie as a triumph heroine in the end. The story touches on simple things in life that people never notice like the gnome chronicles, Amelie's notice of small details, Nino's mysterious fascination with Amelie. I thought the film has a fresh taste unlike most Hollywood blockbusters. Audrey Tautou and Mathieu Kossovitz sizzle as a couple because they're so shy and cute. The cinematography carries very sharp visuals and Jean-Pierre Jeunet's powerful direction helps Amelie achieved the romantic yet vulnerability effects. I love this film and someday I will travel to France to pay my tribute to the culture. |
