Talk about all style and almost no substance. Whether you liked it or not, T3 doesn't follow the same ambitious vision, or the dark, serious, mature-cool themes that James Camaron so boldly established in the great, classic, Termintor 1 and 2. T2 used original one-liners and did not over-use them. It had good character development, story, and emotion. T3 disgards all of the above, and replaces it with more explosions, car chases, fights, and a rediculous, OVER-KILL amount of cheesy humor, comedy, and unoriginal one-liners that never EVER existed before, especially to such commercial, inappropriate degrees. Although it is obvious that T3 copies off many elements of T2, many parts seem as if they're mocking T2, as opposed to giving out a tribute to the originals. I wanted to enjoy Terminator 3. Two of my 5 friends I went with enjoyed it, but most of my friends, (those who also saw it seperately), especially true fans of the originals, will not like Terminator 3 for many reasons. Actually, most true fans will hate T3. Just bear with me here... I liked how things started out, (machines, future) and the action, fighting scenes were entertaining. The villain had lots of cool abilities and the visuals were good, nothing spectacular. However, something felt very shallow and empty with T3. For starters, the plot and story was totally lacking in originality, depth, and direction. T3 does not advance or deepen the story and plot in anyway. Things just basically happen, mostly dialogue, then action, then more dialogue, than more action... I'll beak it down: The comedy humor was just over-done. I know some humor is cool when done right, but everytime Terminator opened his mouth, the whole movie went from being serious to like a comedy. There was just too many one-liners. The transition of going from humor to serious may be funny to some viewers during the moment, but it's totally inappropriate for a movie about the possible end of the human race, (man vs machine) survival, and literally global genocide. Why were the same one-liners from T2 used? Like couldn't the script writers been at least somewhat creative, get new one-liners? Also, Terminator said things that were just too obvious. It made him sound dumb. Most of the dialogue was just plain bad, cheesy. Terminator became a joke at the end in stead of the powerful, menacing, machine we all know to love and fear. Also, T3 completely contradicted what was said in T2. Sarah Conner and everyone else did all that work to pervent Judgement Day. In T2, we learn that we make our own destiny. T3 totally throws that truth out the window. As a reason to make a sequel, these new writers and creaters say that Judgement Day is inevitable. Basically, that is the only thing I remember from the plot, besides the forshadowing that Terminator might come back a forth time to turn on John Conner. Okay, the visuals are good, and Arnold still looks good as the Terminator. I know it has been 12 years since T2. Many people forget how much of a masterpiece T2 was. They should have ended it with T2. I now understand why James Cameron wanted nothing to do with T3. The story ended perfectly and emotionally powerful with T2. Next thing: Is T3 mocking and making fun of Terminator 2? My friends all thought so, even the ones who enjoyed T3 said they were making fun of the Terminator because its supposed to be funny. *cough* what??! Are you serious? And what is up with the short running time of 108 or so minutes??? T3 is totally not epic in anyway. Not much happens, except lots of action scenes to entertain the average viewer. What is up with the redicuous lame ending, which totally leads up to T4? Truth is, T3 hurt the originals and could have packed both together for a more involved, ambitious experience. This is because T3 didn't progress the story other than have everyone looking older and fighting yet another villain. In conclusion, T3 may appeal to the general crowd because of cool chases, big expolsions, several fights, and other visuals, but the movie totally drops just about everything that made the others so classic and memorable. T3 was very disappointing. Jonathon Mostow should have revised the script or had someone improve it. I felt as though I was watching a comedy. When your friends say Terminator 3 was funny, looking back at it... this shouldn't be laughed at as a comedy. They totally ruined it for true fans who will pick up on the huge difference right away. The movie is dumbed down for the general crowd. I really hated this movie in retrospect and wish it was never made. Someone get good script writers who care more about the quality of the movie than their paycheck, or don't make a movie, especially something like T3 which should have been nothing as silly, uncreative, lacking in good characters, and as empty as this. Not even the female villain was close to the fear and menacing T-1000. Besides cool visuals, someone really needs to, should have focused on why T2 is so great, in stead of trying to emulate, copy it the whole time. Thsi was like a shallow version of T2 with no feeling, and what the hell happened to all the good classic Terminator music?! Forget it, I tryed to give an honest review from a true fan. I wish the makers of this film took it to heart. T3 will never be close to the originals. The only thing better is the visuals, and not nearly as creative and cool as those found in the unforgettable Terminator 2.
