I would've given the movie a c- rating

I heard a lot of mixed stuff on this before seeing it. A lot of people seemed to like it for one reason or another. Like I've stated in my previous Fulci reviews, I'm not a big fan of his, but I do enjoy the gore he delivers in his movies. I decided to check this out for myself and discovered that the movie really only exists more-or-less as a "best of" Lucio Fulci movies. The man basically put together a bunch of gory ass clips and placed them in one film.
There's really not much for plot since it's mainly just a bunch of gory clips to show how insane the director seems to be getting, but the basic premise is about a horror director named Dr. Lucio Fulci (played by Lucio Fulci himself) that while working on a current gore-project, begins to see visions of it outside the studio. Eventually he slowly goes into a crazed state where everything around him reminds him of a gore scene that hes worked on in the past. Not only that, but there's someone out there that's really killing people. Could Lucio be the killer? Hmm...
Although I stated the movie consisted of a lot of clips from Lucio Fulci's previous movies, there's also a lot of clips that were made for this one. Although all the clips and scenes were very gory and cool, they are ultimately pointless and unecessary, and seemingly only put to to shock or please the audience. Either way, the movie is pretty much a waste of time unless you're a big Fulci fan. Even the little plot it had about the killing happening in real life was too predictable for its own good. I would've given the movie a c- rating, but I thought a c+ was best since it had a lot of cool gore and it was interesting seeing Lucio basically play himself.
OVERALL
A seemingly pointless movie that was made just to show off a lot of gory deaths. Worth a check if you're a fan of Lucio Fulci's, but I'd advise to steer clear otherwise. |
