The BEST Horror movie because of its storyline not of its visuals. I had read it being compared to "The Sixth Sense" but I can assure you, it is nothing like it. Other than them both being about spirits and young kids communicating with the dead, there are no similarities.
Nicole Kidman plays a mother of two children that suffer from an allergic disease of light. If they are exposed to light a terrible allergic reaction will occur and since they live on a deserted land, no medical assistance will be available before their death. Because of the large house she asks for maids. Before she even sends out the ad three mysterious housemaids show up to the door saying that they have lived in the mansion before and can be of some assistance. Once is an old lady, one is an old man and the other is a mute 20-something lady. As soon as she invites them in strange things occur. Curtains are drawn open, pianos mysteriously fill the air with music, her daughter says she talks to a strange little boy living in the house, doors are left wide open exposing sunlight. Nicole's character begins to wonder just how trustworthy her maids are.
"The Others" is what I like to call a 'creepy' movie. That's why it was rated PG-13. There are no gruesome ghosts popping out of graveyards attacking the living. It is all in your head. The movie plays with your mind and only tricks you into believing what may not be true. So actually this could of been rated PG but I'm sure parents wouldn't want their 5yr olds having nightmares.
What I love best about "The Others" is the ending. It clearly defines what a suspensful movie is. Nicole Kidman was believable as a strict religious mother who only wanted her children to live.
I highly suggesting viewing "The Others". After watching it you will agree with me that it is BETTER than "The Sixth Sense". |
