I didn't hate this movie, but I didn't love it either. I didn't like it, but I didn't dislike it either. I think you get the point. It definately had above average story telling, characters, and overall feel, but somewhere in there it just wasn't knocking my socks off. I felt like it should have, but because it never did I feel somehow cheated and left with a movie that could have been better.

Thora Birch's character reminded me a lot of myself in high school. Angst ridden, people hating (i still don't like people in general), artsy, and generaly misunderstood. After high school she is a bit lost and she is trying on all these different 'masks' or personalities to see if one fits well. None of them really does and she remains unhappy. Meanwhile, Scarlett Johansonn's character started off in much the same way as Birch's. She got a job right away and immediately her character changed to conform more to a society standard. She realized that with her attitude the way it was she was never going to get ahead and ultimately be happy. Naturaly, the characters begin to drift apart.

I wish there had been something more, but I don't know what. A solid C movie.
