I will start by saying that I have not read the book. I don't know that doing so would have helped me enjoy this story or not. I suppose it couldn't have hurt because I certainly didn't enjoy seeing this film.
People have raved about Renee Zellwegger's performance, but I thought she was trying too hard with her British accent. It was painful for me to watch.
What's more, getting past her accent, I must say I didn't like Bridget Jones very much. She's stupid. She does stupid things for which I guess we're suppose to find her charming. I was not charmed.
Hugh Grant made a living playing an all too agreeable, nervous, nice guy. Here he plays a selfish jerk and he does it well. His was the only part in the film I didn't wince at.
I usually like Colin Firth, but his role is so bland and boring, I wonder why he would have wanted it.
I go back to the center of this film: the character of Bridget Jones. As I said, I did not like her. I did not like Renee Zellwegger's performance in the role. I found the charcter and teh film dopey and uniteresteing. |
