Sure, this movie didn't do well in the box office and the critics gave it horrible ratings, but that's typical for this genre. Critics usually give poor ratings to comedies containing crude humor and/or movies not concentrating so much on a good and original plot, but rather intended just to make people laugh.
However, this movie is absolutely hilarious to people with a certain type of humor. The typical "serious" adult probably wouldn't find it funny at all. The first time I watched it, I didn't think it was all that funny. However, just like the movies "Happy Gilmore" and "Tommy Boy," this is just one of those movies that becomes funnier each time you watch it. It tends to grow on you the more you watch it, and you pick up more subtle jokes you missed before.
"Joe Dirt" gained lots of popularity once it hit the shelves. In my opinion, it's become a cult classic. |
