Ok this movie did not do well at all at the box office. That being said Joe Dirt is a pretty funny movie. The only reason this movie works is David Spade's performance. If he hadn't played Joe Dirt as a perfectly clueless redneck this movie would not have worked. Some of the gags are hit and miss, but they were mostly on to me. There's also a smal spoof of Silence of the Lambs that was interesting to say the least. I guess people don't flock to see David Spade movies without Chris Farley in them. I agree Spade can also play hit or miss characters, but when he gets the right role and nails it there isn't many people funnier. I loved seeing him take it down a notch from the intelligent prick he usually plays. There's enough laughs in Joe Dirt to make this a comedy worth watching. |
