Great Pick-me-up movie

Nowadays, it seems like the movies that get the best reviews or the biggest draws have talking lions and gay cowboys (not that there's anything wrong with that). The ones that win the Oscars aren't always the ones that make us feel good or relax us. This movie is a refreshing change.
The plot isn't that thick, but it's meaty enough to tie together a string of events that all meet at the end. The cooking is amazing. I'd say a good quarter of the movie is nothing but the main character's hands in the kitchen. Literally, just his hands.
The story with his daughters is cute and belivable, but nothing spectacular. That's not the point of the movie, though. If you're looking for a blow-away experience of a work of art, look someplace else. But if you want a film that you can sit back and relax and not feel like killing yourself afterwards, this is your movie. |
