A second movie 45-years later that takes place six months after the first ended.
A chance to go into the Disney vaults and do research that seems seldom done unless it is planned in advance that the movie will continue...
For a movie produced by the Television division of Disney this deserved to be a theatrical production. What money is saved by doing most production in Australia Disney could have been done here and this movie could have stood on it's own as a true Disney Classic movie.
I have seen no where else that the directors paid attention to the small detail of the movie and how to continue the story, yet realize you can not duplicate the original, but you can produce a movie that continues as a great story, combine old and new. Others could learn from the attention to detail, part of this was the research done on the first L&T movie, done a lot today for DVD releases, but done for a new release movie, it is fresh and done right..
Listening to the background story and such included with the DVD brings understanding, to how this worked and what seemed some changes.
If a fan of Don Knotts, the dog catcher is basically him, sad that he was not hired to voice the dog catcher, as I know he did other annimation, but I don't know the background on that, if they tried or if turned down???? The one point that seems questionable, but actually done in other movies too I guess. James Bond for one. This is really a take off of Barney Fife of Mayberry, not Don Knotts himself. Maybe he was considered, since he did many Disney movies or gave permission to do such??
The story, a lesson is learned that is very relevant of family, lacking so much today, let the "Scamp" try leaving, but allow him/her back. Actually this story idea is in the bible. The son who leaves and is welcomed back at the end, only in this case, everyone is happy at the end and no-one has a complaint of Scamp's return. |
