What a fantastic film, from first frame to the last! People keep comparing it to Rocky Horror Show...please stop! This film is nothing like Rocky except that Hedwig is a Transexual, and that is where the comparisons ought to stop. This film, full of exceptional, excellent, stellar, even, music by Stephen Trask, follows writer/director/star John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig) through the journey of his existence, in search of his "other half". He only comes close when he meets a young boy (Michael Pitt, also excellent!) who learns all of Hedwig's songs, steals Hedwig's heart, and then becomes a #1 MTV Rock Star. And Hedwig is also angry...about what he calls his "Angry Inch". I won't spoil this little plot point for you...just trust me...if you love Glam Rock, and Independent Films made with ingenuity and itelligence, humor, and pathos galore...then you are going to fall in love with HEDWIG. It is one of the best Rock Musicals of all time! |
