I see critics blast this movie left and right, and each review I read I laugh because they don't understand what the hell is goin on, and in their defense, they really shouldn't be able to after seeing it once, only after several times of watching the film and doin some reading does it begin to make sense.
People think that donnie is seeing things that aren't real, but they're wrong. The dead spirit of a man is actually appearing to him. This is a man that Donnie kills in the end of the movie, but at the very end of the movie his spirit, like Donnie himself travel back in time. So throughout the movie there is Frank the ghost and Frank the guy. And the rabbit thing is just the costume Frank was wearing on Halloween the night he was killed, and if you notice Frank got shot in the eye, and the ghost Frank has got that messed up eye.
Now for the reasoning behind everything Frank did, Donnie should have died when that airplane engine came sailing through his room. But when he didn't he through everything off in the world. The girl he meets would have never died, his mom and sister wouldn't have died because they wouldn't have been on that plane and Frank wouldn't have died either because Donnie wouldn't have been able to kill him. And as to the whole thing with the ghost, when Donnie traveled back in time the ghost of Frank does as well, and he can appear to Donnie because people who have used time travel before are allowed to help first-timers. So the ghost of Frank is not there to haunt Donnie, he is there to help Donnie set the universe right again.
Its a complicated thinker of a movie, but it gets better and better the more you understand, and they're re-releasing it soon with new footage so I suggest you check it out. |
