Being an Australian myself the humour and wit in the story is just hilarious. Australian humour is quite different to American so Americans might just find it stupid (just like how sometimes we find your humour stupid), apart from that though this movie is a delightful and apart from a couple swear words this movie is FANTASTIC!
From the very starting scene when Sam Neill is driving up the driveway, pulls over and looks at his dish it grabs you and doesn't stop until the end. The characters are great with Tom Long as the very capable mathemetician but not so capable with the girls to Sam Neill's nextdoor military fanatic head over heels with his sullen daughter to even the dim witted Security Guard who thinks at one point he really can talk to Armstrong on his walkie-talkie.
Parkes, Australia holds the biggest satellite dish in the Southern Hemisphere and when Armstrong went to the moon NASA needed a second dish when the rocket went out of reach for theirs. Parkes is chosen and ends up receiving the footage to broadcast to the world. Therefore the little town of Parkes is thrown upside down when all the Prime Ministers, US Ambassadors and local Officals start arriving from all over. Much commontion and jokes are pulled with a few crisises put in but they do their job with skill and composure before the movie ends.
When the credits roll you feel good about yourself and will definetely leave with a smile on your face. |
