Religious antics and heated arguments cause quite a stir when a chocolate maker opens for business in residential France. Independent single mother [Juliette Binoche] migrates with her six year old daughter to a rural town, as she thrives to create a secure livelihood for her offspring by controversially opening a chocolate shop. Her business and shrouded life is hampered by the overbearing religious fanatics whose frigid preaching rejects her frustrating stance. Swedish Director Lasse Hollstrom [The Cider House Rules-1999] experience with another period-piece serves as a qualified advantage, as he structures the many sub-plots with his strong supporting cast of splendid performances all fitted with fine cinematography. Juliette Binoche Academy Award nominated performance clearly showcased the depth of talent, that also includes Lena Olin, Johnny Depp, Judi Dench and Alfred Molina. |
