For a flick of this genre, it is above average.
One premise is science can advance beyond the capabilities that human nature needs to confront and conquer its' basic emotions and needs.
Kevin Bacon, the protagonist is a brilliant but arrogant,quirky scientist. As the head scientist, he tests the first phase of a secret, gov't supported project on himself without authorizatation and without safeguards from unanticipated and disasterous results. Bacon's leap from altruistic motivation to self-serving actions exemplified by indulgence in forbidden "fruits" and cumlinating in a murderous rampage makes for a good scifi thriller.
The special effects are outstanding. The acting and direction are good, and the movie doesn't drag
For a scifi thriller, it is above average...somewhat reminiscent of THE FLY in its moral tale. Not a bad rental, but catch it on cable as first choice |
