A remake of a remake

That in itself is the problem with this movie. This story has been told three times now, and two was enough. Down to Earth is a remake of the great film Heaven Can Wait, which was a remake of the film Here Comes Mr. Jordan. Down to Earth I think is supposed to be the funnier version, or else they wouldn't have had Chris Rock star in it, but the problem is, it isn't really funny. It has its moments, but overall it's not really funny.
Chris Rock the actor is not to be blamed because of this film. It is Chris Rock the writer and two others who adapted this version who should be blamed. They have given Rock such bland material to work with, that it is almost painful to watch.
Also, you would expect a funnier film from not only Rock himself, but from the directors of the movie American Pie, in Paul and Chris Weitz, but sadly, they don't deliver.
The only bright spot in this film though is the always brilliant Eugene Levy, but its too bad that it is in a small and limited role.
This movie has a couple of funny moments here and there, but overall its an unecessary and unfunny remake...........of a remake. |
