Man, two Chris Rock movies on my worst list - back to back no less! I think he's a funny comedian but his choice of films stinks. He should pick better scripts than crap like this. This film is a loose remake of Heaven Can Wait a 70's flick with Warren Beatty which in fact was a remake of an older film which I haven't seen. Heaven Can Wait was no gem but this is far worse. Rock plays a struggling, unfunny comedian who is killed and sent to heaven ahead of schedule. The people upstairs realize they've made a mistake so they send him 'down to Earth' in the body of a fat, middle aged, rich ***** - a white guy, to boot. This is supposed to be funny. Rock is black living in the body of a fat white guy. This is fodder for lots of racial gags and some poignant moments as Rock decides to change what the rich guy has been doing and to be more generous. If you find a fat white guy rapping to DMX to be the epitome of great comedy than this is the movie for you. I found it to be stale and cliched with hardly a single laugh to be found. It's annoying and offensive and shall I say, stupid. A waste of time. |
