Ed Harris is Jackson Pollock!
by Rye. (movies profile)
Mar 20, 2006
Adapted from the biography ‘Jackson Pollock: An American Saga’ written by Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith. The film focuses on the trials and tribulations of modernist Jackson Pollock, a pioneer in the field of abstract impressionistic painting that influenced artists many alike and fascinates countless in the art arena. This emotionally charged biopic is directed and produced by Ed Harris who also serves as lead actor, a role that took many years of enduring research and training of the famed artist. After almost a decade of developing, Pollock life is sanctimoniously divulged by Harris direction and titled performance, who battled with a case of alcoholic persona that often threatened his marriage to fellow modern artist Lee Krasner [Marcia Gay Harden]. Always an under-achiever to American cinema, Harris is never recognized in terms of box-office status or fan base acquaintance, as he is one of the few respected performers who delivers critically acclaimed offerings quite often, as Pollock is definitely his best work to date in his well written resume. A minor but acknowledged performance by Jennifer Connelly will boost the career of a virtually unknown actress, while little less is known of Marcia Gay Harden who earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Meanwhile, Ed Harris garnered an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in his directorial debut. |
