An inside-joke that's only funny to one person: the director.

Rob Zombie would like to say that this is his homage to the horror films he grew up watching (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 10,000 Maniacs). It's ironic then that the only person who can truly enjoy this mess is the director himself. There are way too many "homages" and tips of the hats to so many horror films that it's hard to distinguish anything (like a coherent storyline) in the melee. What starts out promising enough soon disolves into a dizzying showcase of set-pieces that seem to only be there because Zombie thought they would 'be cool'.

None of the characters are interesting enough to care about and the subplot featuring tortured cheerleaders seems tacked on just to give hormonally-driven men something to look at (though, if you can find anything sexual from those scenes, you might have more problems than you think).

The plot... Basically, there is none to speak of.

The visuals... mind-numbing. With the Technicolor and dark shadows, at times, it's very hard to make out anything. They look like the way you see things when you have a bad case of food-poisoning: feverish, room spinning, strange colors. And, a lot of those 'cool' things end up being just gross.

The acting is supplied by Z-grade movie stars from the 70's (Sid Haig of many blaxploitation films "fame" and Karen Black) and that guy who hosted SINGLED OUT on MTV (Chris Hardwick). I guess the auditions at the Encino Regional Theatre must have fallen through.

A movie strictly for HARD-CORE fans of Rob Zombie.

IF YOU ENJOYED THIS MOVIE, TRY...
-The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1973)
-The Texas Chiansaw Massacre (2003)...really, it's not that bad.

PLEASE AVOID...
-if you haven't already watched it, this movie.
-the promised sequel.
