In an age of stupid, regurgitated shock thrillers, I was pleased to hear that Rob Zombie, a talented rock musician with what seemed to be a knack for knowing what's scary was taking a stab at directing a horror film. Then I watched his production, House Of 1000 Corpses. I wasn't expecting the film to be mainstream... and it wasn't. I am not sure what it was. To me... it seemed like a mixture of Texas Chainsaw Massacar, Deliverance, and a whole pile of 50s spookshow reels. The acting was creditable, and the freaky make-ups did stand out. However, the entire storyline never did find a solid direction to follow, and I was left at the end of the film confused and unfulfilled.
While it was interesting to see some fresh meat, Zombie would be better off sticking to his music. |
