To me this is the second best movie in the Friday series behind the original. This movie was originally supposed to be Freddy vs. Jason but when they realized that wasn't going to happen they went back to the typical Friday plot with one exception. Enter Tina, a girl with telekinetic powers who is going back to Crystal Lake to overcome her past demons. I've heard in the past that by this movie people were rooting for Jason but not in my opinion. To me it was more like you know what to expect by this point. You know who's going to live and who's going to die so the element of being scared doesn't real enter the equation. The approach taken here was perfect. Instead of trying to make the stalk and kill scenes tense and scary they made them a bit more creative. We knew what was coming, but how exactly they were coming we didn't. That in itself made the movie all the more scary. Jason wasn't this big scary mystery anymore. Instead he was the undead badass who we know can't be stopped so we might as well admire his work. The MPAA however raped this movie of any semblance of gore. This movie may be one of the best horror movies ever made if they ever release the uncut version that we all know is floating around somewhere out there. Most of the kills happen very quickly or off screen which in this series is never a good thing. ***** You MPAA! I can't say enough about the Jason make-up. Pure wizardry which holds up just fine to this very day. Extremely freaky looking and terrifying. This is also Kane Hodder's first of 4 times behind the mask and he brings Jason to life in a way we've never seen before. The deep breathing, head turning and shoulder shrugs are perfectly terrifying in there own right. Some people don't like the ending but to me while it may not have been the most ideal it did fit in well with the plot. Even Tina can't stop Jason, so what does it take to stop him if only temporarily?? Watch this movie and find out. Definitely does not dissappoint. |
