Yes its old. Yes its in black and white. Yes the acting is old fashioned. Yes, I am a diehard fright fan. Yes, it probably haunted me more than any movie I've ever seen. The tension that builds in this movie is very slow and very subtle. Little happens. But you always know that something is very, very wrong. But is it the house? Is it the dead? Is it the heroine? Is it the children?
There are few, if any, visual effects, in this film. I can't think of any sound effects. But the tension is terrible and its all done with simple visuals, the use of shadow, silence, music and good, solid acting. |
