How do you follow up a shocker like "The Blair Witch Project"? Answer: turn it on its head, twist and ring the story like a wet rag until all of those juices are extracted, and let the Blair witch do her thing! The story takes place back in Burkistville, where they now conduct tours of the famous sight of the previous killings. So now its a wink and a shrug to us, the audience, as we watch hipsters and sexually charged teens go into the woods....and some of them do come out, this time...but changed forever. What I really like about this twisted and convoluted movie is how they mess with reality, thus, with the viewer's head. Things happen, and you SEE them happen....but did they REALLY happen...the way we THINK they did? In this story, probably not. I think this film was unfairly lambasted by the Powers That Be, and it is certainly a worthy sequel to the original. Different, but still good. And that's how to make a successful sequel. |
