Yes, this all-time Christmas favorite classic has been done before. In fact, many times before, but Patrick Stewart brought a lot of experience from the stage after having played the title role for years in London. Stewart is not the only reason to see this film. The scenery is beautiful and the other actors, for the most part, are quite complimentary to Stewart's lead. I was especially touched by the way they decided to go beyond the traditional story and offer a little more insight as to how Ebeneezer Scrooge's life from the past may have been. There were longer scenes and it didn't feel rushed like it would be if it were on stage. They took the time to really let you know what went on in the past, the present, and the future. The children actors, especially, the "Kratchet" children, were a joy to see! Add this one to your holiday collection, it's an instant classic, in it's own right! |
