I read this book many, many years ago as a young girl and this movie really brought me right back into the story as if I had read it yesterday.
Dickens was never my favorite author (neither was he my least favorite, either) But his stories always stood out in my memory.
Daniel Radcliffe was so little- and already a budding actor. I think, especially given his age he did a fantastic job. Overall the rest of the crew did pretty well, but one who stands out is Dame Maggie Smith (not a big surprise, though)
She really plays her character well, and I always enjoy her performances. The only thing I would have changed about this in DVD format is taking out the narrative that was there for the purpose of introducing the mini-series to a TV audience. If you are sitting, watching the movie all in one shot it is rather distracting and shatters the magic of the story. |
