I disagree with landy2good who obviously isn't a true horror fan.
Yes, "The Possession" contains bad acting. But what makes this flick stand out is it's link to real-life horror.
This movie deals with incest, child abuse and mental illness. The type of horror you see on the evening news.
Not many films of this genre cover these issues.
The second factor that makes Possession attractive is the fact it defies the standard. Like I said, not many horror flicks cover these issues and therefore this movie is a true rebel.
Apparently "landy2good" can't take real life horror very well. But for those of us who need a reality dose, Possession does the trick.
I honestly think it's better than the original because The Amityville Horror was so phony. Obviously, the Lutzes were proven frauds. The scene where they walk around their house with a crucifix in hopes of exercising a demon was more funny than scary.
So, if part 2 copies The Exorcist, then part 1 copies The Shining (dad goes mad scenereo).
What's more horrifying? A made-up ghost story or a tale of family abuse based on the very real Ronald DeFeo case?
I vote for the latter. |
