Robert Altman is the most overrated director

Though I enjoyed MASH and Short Cuts, I have to say that Robert Altman is one of the most overrated directors in all of modern cinema. What exactly has he done that differentiates himself from others? To tell you the truth I do not find his direction to be any better than the direction of any movie with Steven Segal starring in it for example (my meaning is regular production films).
One of the great problems with the Player is that it is an elitist film to begin with. It is only meant for those who work in Hollywood and for those fat chicks who work at or aspire to work at celebrity magazines like People magazine and Us. To the normal viewer the shallowness of the characters does little to interest us because their concerns seem so abstract as compared to more real/concrete businesses. I did not find the story to be particular intriguing, nor did I find it to be suspenseful. Furthermore, it was barely witty because all jokes were "inside" jokes and I do not pretend to be an aspiring Hollywood worshipper. |
