Not the family movie I remembered

I want to preface by saying that this review is not coming from a cinematic point of view, but from a mom's family-choice point of view.
In the early 80s I was much younger, not only in age but in exposure. There were not so many zany movies to see, models were considered high-teck, and children were not quite as quick on the uptake with inuendo. When I stumbled upon a VHS copy the other day, I got to to watch with my three daughters, to experience the outlandish entertianment I remembered. There were MANY parts of this movie I did not remember! What I had forgotten about was the multiple nearly naked men in the turkish bath and the strong sexual inuendo throughout the entire moon scene (my kids requested to skip it, but with a VHS it isn't quite as easy!). Oh, then there was a vivid spectre of death that haunts the whole story, dimembered bodies, and a topless and very live Aphordite. We don't watch sexually charged tv, don't watch Pirates of the Carribean-style living-dead scenes with our children, and avoid having to fast forward through massive parts of a movie. For similar movies without the objectionable parts, I much prefer "Gepetto" (with Drew Carey) or "Hook" (with Dustin Hoffman) or "Peter Pan" (Jeremy Sumpter). |
