As far as sequels go...

Like so many who've seen this sequel, the standout by far was the character of Kane, deftly played by the late Julian Beck.
There are those who feel that this was 'milking' the storyline are partially correct. It could've easily ended with the first movie and I would have been content. That being said, we would have missed Julian Beck's last performance as the creepy and evil Kane*, so I have to give it props for that.
All in all it didn't really so much re-capture the innocence of the first film. My feeling is if you were going to see (or rent) this in the first place, you knew bad things were going to happen. The effects were interesting and disturbing as usual and the acting was good all the way around.
I can say... At least this wasn't Poltergeist 3.
*NOTE: Julian Beck pulled Kane off so well because he was terminally ill with cancer and used it in the portrayal of the character. In the end he put everything into Kane because, he felt he had nothing to lose. RIP. |
