Decent Sequel

As horror sequels go...this is pretty good. The story follows on a year after the events of the original movie.
The pace of the movie is good , however obviously rushed in parts {mainly at the end} ...but like the 1st movie continues to be entertaining. I personally got alot of joy from just watching the interaction between the husband and wife team of the two lead actors {especially when they were debating on how to claim insurance for the distruction of their house by evil spirits at the end of the first movie.}
The films main departure from the first movie is the inclusion of an arch villain. Where as in the first movie you were only given the idea that there are some bad spirits and some good spirits floating around the house, Poltergiest 2 has a more standard demonic figure head simular to the likes of Pin Head from Hellraiser or that creepy guy from Phantasms.
This movie has 'Kane' a baptist minister from the undead who is 'hell bent' on breaking up the family and claiming the younger daughters soul...{strangly enough no mention is made of the older daughter in the film which is one of its many plot holes.} Kane is perhaps one of the best things in this movie and the actor who plays him, really does a good job in being menacing and creepy.
In conclusion this is a good film {excellent considering its a sequel}...but I cant help thinking that Speielburg would of trully kicked ass if he had made this movie instead, and made a true classic like the first one. |
