The Naked Gun is a comedy classic and the only movies to feature performances from The juice himself as accident prone cop, Nordberg. This movie is hilarious and showed off the comedic genius of Leslie Nielson as Lt. Frank Drebbin, the world's dumbest cop. What a cast, too. Priscilla Presley, Ricardo Montalban and George Kennedy - not to mention O.J. the knife wielding cokehead psycho (he did it) and Reggie Jackson! This movie and part two The Smell of Fear stop at nothing to get laughs much the same way that Airplane! did in 1980. Side splitting slapstick comedy at its best. So many memorable moments I can't pick my favorite although the latex sex scene is a standout among standouts. Haven't seen this movie in years but I remembered it when I was putting together this list. I saw this in the theater when it came out and nearly died of laughter. I owned the VHS copy for years but lost it somehwhere in the 90's along with Caddyshack and Up in Smoke, to name a few. I will get around to getting all of these on DVD soon however. This one like Airplane! and the other two I named above never get old and are just as funny now as they ever were. They just don't make 'em like this anymore. But they should. Part 21/2 is good as well but part 331/3 isn't that great. This one is the true stand-out though. Frank Drebbin kicks ass! |
