Preachy But Still Engaging

Spike Lee never fails to disappoint me. Even though he's married now, and they say marriage is supposed to tame the beast, Mr. Lee still has a few thought-provoking movies left in him. This latest one deals with an issue I've been arguing with people for years: Black stereotypes and exploitation on television. He even takes it on step further by having the black characters in "black face". While this may sound offensive, you have to look past the surface and see the message Spike is trying to deliver here. All the actors and actresses were outstanding, especially Damon Wayans, who surprised me with his dramatic turn in this movie. My only disappointment was the show itself that was portrayed. Half the time, the characters are talking so fast that you barely understand them half the time. Still, this moving doesn't disappoint and I recommend everyone see it at least once. |
