Too pretentious for its own good

Though the overall story is somewhat believable (considering the Jerry Springer Era of TV)...this flick goes WAY overboard in making its point about racism. If the story should feel like butter on bread (ie digestable), this was a block of lard on toast, or "cracker" (hehe, get it??).
The ending of the film was so far-fetched within the context of the story that I felt it caused the whole film to implode.
When you pile deep, heavy, deep, heavy meaning on top of meaning, it all falls like a house of cards.
Spike Lee can do better as in '24 Hours' and 'Malcolm X'. |
