"Birthday Girl" was made in 1999, and therefore we can see why Nicole Kidman did it. She had not yet arrived on the A list of Hollywood actors. Her "Eyes Wide Shut" was a box-office flop and "Practical Magic" was practical garbage. So even though it was released in 2002, remember she hadn't done "The Others" or "Moulin Rouge" yet when she FILMED this.
"Birthday Girl" is the wrong title for this ridiculous mediocre junk about a loser who orders a Russia-mailorder bride for compainionship- and sex. Kidman arrives speaking no english and he is angered, but soon learns to like her. The her cousins arrive and it turns out their all con artists who use losers like him for their money.
Oh, and Kidman actually does speak english- wow.
A disappointing mess with Kidman being the only lite. |
