I can watch this over and over and over again. Every dialogue and scene is fun to watch. Everytime I notice something new - for example in the drug store the background music (barely audible) is some sort of evangelical song which Greg later uses some words from in a unrehearsed prayer at dinner (day by day by day). It popped into his head because it entered his brain subliminally in the drug store. Then as they are dancing in the restaurant, the fake Jinxy cat is eating the nicotine gum - and thats what caused the cat to go hyper and destroy the room and the wedding dress. Its just a brief moment but I didnt know it was the gum at first. But then now everything makes sense.
Kevin was so great. I saw outtakes and the original ad lib of Owen Wilson had Kevin say " i saw a dog...it had a broken leg...it broke my heart" De Niro cracked up laughing and so it developed more for the final scene.
This movie definitely deserves a sequel where they meet Greg's parents in detroit. You can have Kevin be poor all of a sudden due to the internet bust etc. Could be funny! |
